24 November 2016, Bukit Damansara:
This talk in the Teh Tarik Series, hosted by the Bukit Damansara House Owners’ Association, featured Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, former Minister of International Trade and Industry, current Independent Non-Executive Chairman of AirAsia X and Supermax Corp.It was a great sharing session with Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, an inspiring female leader with an indomitable spirit who addressed the full house with refreshing, egalitarian views on nation building and entrepreneurship. She emphasized the universal values of integrity, hard work, and meritocracy in the line of service to others.
That no matter what creed, race, gender or religion, anyone can succeed in entrepreneurship or be promoted in their workplace if they are good at what they do. She shared her experiences as Trade Minister for two decades, leading delegations to foster trade and advocating policies to position Malaysia as an international trade partner on the global stage, in her candid, no-nonsense style of humor which elicited laughter from the audience. Having played important roles in government and now as a senior advisor in the private sector, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz firmly believes that circles of influence starts from the home. A good leader’s home begins with a harmonious family and an orderly household that is managed well.
Most importantly, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz taught us to be true to ourselves and to always be consistent to our beliefs, no matter what the circumstances or naysayers that come our way. A strong sense of self, grounded in the purpose to serve the nation, is what gives Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz the drive to continue contributing to our beloved country, Malaysia. I believe Tan Sri has imparted this spirit of service to others during the Teh Tarik Series, and hope many others will be inspired through her words of wisdom.
